Going SoFo (ENG)
I love the way the Scandinavian think. Designing and creating beautiful, minimalistic, simple and functional objects and solutions is in there blood. And it’s visible everywhere. Not only in the stores but also in project development, subway stations and even on the street. For example, I took the pictures of the tiles at the subway station where young designers where given a platform to expose themselves. A great opportunity for those young designers. This is one of the reasons I love going to one of the countries who represent Scandinavia like Sweden, Finland Norway and Denmark.
This year my family and I exchanged Holland for Sweden for a month. We travelled through this breathtaking country by mobile home and combined my love for design with nature. It turned out to be the best combination ever and with a travel blog worthwhile.
But the part I want to share with you is my day alone at Stockholm. I went to the area Södermalm AKA SoFo. It’s called like that because it breathes the same atmosphere as Soho- New York. The streets are also filled with modern and eccentric people. You find a variety of shops from design to vintage clothing with a great place to drink coffee and meet people on every corner.
The people are friendly and everyone speaks English so there no language barrier. I noticed that many shops combined selling interior design with selling clothes. I great combination you don’t see often here in Holland. That the Scandinavian love there details becomes clear directly when you step into a store because great, suitable music surrounds you immediately. A wonderful way to catch up on the right vibe.
Let my personal top six inspire you to visit Södermalm:
6. Galleri Hantverket
Here you can find art in various ways. There are paintings as well as sculptures but also the typical glassware that Sweden is famous for. Wonderful pieces well exhibited.
Gallri Hantverket – Götgatan 63 – 11621 Stockholm – www.gallerihantverket.se
5. Judits Second Hand
This is a vintage clothing store to definitely die for! Judit makes woman who love vintage designer clothes as well as the woman who are totally into flower power crazy and greedy. The store contains a large collection of clothing, shoes and accessories. Prices are very acceptable so go score your own designer item and have fun!

This is certainly a place to be in Södermalm because of the atmosphere, store location and the appearance of the building in which they are located. I liked the collection but i loved the true hipster ambiance. Here you feel like a local! Every last Thursday evening of the month they serve wine and there’s a DJ rocking the beat. They know how we like to shop!
Grandpa – Södermannagatan 21- 116 40 Stockholm – www.grandpa.se
3. Agencies Turqoise
When you enter this shop it feels like you step into Ibiza slash India. The clothing- as well as the interior design collection is inspired by Ibiza and India. I loved being here, wandering around and having a chat with owner Elina. The weather was unusually hot the day I visited Södermalm and everyone was seeking for coolness. Everyone but Elina because she loves the heat, it makes her feel like she’s in India. She’s an engaging and inspiring person who loves her job. It shows in the store. Great place to visit!

Habitat stores are located all over the world. And there’s also one in SoFo. Luckily for me because we don’t have one in Holland anymore. I love the comprehensive collection and the fact that it’s very affordable. When they reduce prices for the REA (sale) they reduce them well. A great way to buy current design for a nice price. There collection of pottery is enormous and vastly worthwhile. The pottery is available in different colours which invited to mix and match. So go mixing and matching yourself and fly off the handle.

This is personal favourite. I adore this brand. They also create a total atmosphere by playing their own music, choosing great store locations and offer great interior design items. The people in the stores are outstanding and the actual designers are visible in the stores and catalogs. Notice the details in the concept of this brand and you’ll be as excited about it as i am! Music is an enormous inspiration for Bolia and you can tune in to their music at soundcloud.com/bolia How wonderful is that? Don’t forget to greet Pasha for me whenever you visit Bolia Södermalm, thnx!
Bolia – Götgatan 55 – 116 21 Stockholm – firstname.lastname@example.org
